Scott William Wood, 41, Sentenced to 29 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

SHREVEPORT, La. – In a major blow to the methamphetamine trade in Louisiana, convicted drug dealer Scott William Wood has been sentenced to a total of 29 years in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Wood, a 41-year-old resident of Noble, La., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr. for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and revocation of his supervised probation.

The charges stem from a traffic stop on December 26, 2022, in Sabine Parish, where a deputy found a loaded Glock, Model 43X, 9mm pistol and a clear bag containing approximately 120 grams of methamphetamine in the front floorboard of the passenger side of the vehicle. The firearm and methamphetamine belonged to Wood, who admitted to intending to distribute the methamphetamine to other individuals.

Wood, who was on supervised release in the Western District of Louisiana at the time of his arrest, has a prior conviction for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, for which he was sentenced to 120 months in prison in 2013.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth D. Reeg prosecuting the case.

As part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, Wood's conviction is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in the region, highlighting the importance of multi-agency collaboration in disrupting and dismantling high-level drug trafficking organizations.

Wood pleaded guilty to the offenses of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking at a guilty plea hearing on May 26, 2023.
