MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – In a shocking turn of events, Sebron Dejuan Brown, a 35-year-old resident of Muskogee, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Odometer Tampering, Odometer Fraud, and Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud.
The investigation, led by the Muskogee Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Office of Odometer Fraud Investigation, revealed that Brown, along with others, conspired to commit offenses against the United States by knowingly and willfully resetting and altering the odometers of motor vehicles.
The Second Superseding Indictment alleged that from December 2016 to May 2017, Brown and his co-conspirators agreed to commit offenses against the United States by altering the odometers of motor vehicles. The indictment also revealed that on multiple occasions, Brown reset and altered the odometer readings of motor vehicles from high mileage to low mileage with the intent to change the number of miles registered on the odometers.
The charges arose from an investigation into Brown's activities, which were allegedly aimed at defrauding insurance companies. Brown's co-conspirators, Rakyra Jones and Tracy Mahone (now dismissed from the Second Superseding Indictment), were also involved in the scheme.
Assistant United States Attorneys Doug Horn, Jarrod Leaman, and Michael Cooper represented the United States in this case. The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted Brown's plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.
