Secundino Garcia-Lopez, Illegally Reentering the United States, Iowa 2024
A Guatemalan man has been sentenced to prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported.
Secundino Garcia-Lopez, 37, was sentenced to 102 days in federal prison by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Garcia-Lopez admitted to previously being deported from the United States in August 2012 and illegally reentering the country without permission.
He was found at the Mitchell County Jail in April 2024 after being arrested on state charges, and immigration officials were notified that he had reentered the country illegally.
Garcia-Lopez was previously deported and reentered the United States without permission, violating federal law.
He was sentenced to serve a one-year term of supervised release after his prison term and is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be turned over to immigration officials.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations.
