Myrtle Beach Man Sentenced to Nearly 4 Years in Federal Prison for Gun Charge
A 42-year-old man from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Sedrick Lemont Jenkins, 42, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision. The sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence, South Carolina.
The conviction and sentence stem from a July 30, 2018, traffic stop in Aynor, South Carolina. Horry County Police Department officers approached Jenkins, who was driving a car that was blocking the roadway. A K9 unit was deployed, which gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics. During a search of the car, a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was found behind a panel in the passenger side floor compartment.
Jenkins is prohibited from possessing a firearm based on his prior federal drug convictions and his prior federal conviction for felon in possession of ammunition.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Horry County Police Department. It was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts.
Assistant United States Attorney Lauren L. Hummel of the Florence office prosecuted the case.
