Coeur d'Alene Man Sentenced to Up to 20 Years for Bank Robbery

A 24-year-old Coeur d'Alene man pleaded guilty to bank robbery in a federal court, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney.

Seth Patrick Getty was accused of entering the Spokane Teachers Credit Union in Coeur d'Alene on March 12, 2018, with the intention of committing a robbery.

Getty handed the teller a note, which read, “I have a gun. Hand over all 20’s 50’s 100’s or else. No Tricks.” The teller complied with the demand, handing Getty some cash before he fled the bank.

Security footage from the bank and a local business, along with a tip from the community and DMV vehicle records, helped investigators identify Getty as the perpetrator.

The charge of bank robbery is punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least five years.

Getty is set to be sentenced on May 5, 2020, before Chief U.S. District Court Judge David C. Nye.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.

The investigation was a joint effort between the two agencies, highlighting the importance of community involvement in solving crimes.

The case serves as a reminder of the severity of bank robbery and the consequences that come with it.
