Seth Stadel, Assault by Strangulation and Suffocation, South Dakota 2021
An Eagle Butte man has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for a heinous act of violence against his intimate partner.
Seth Stadel, 27, was convicted of Assault by Strangulation and Suffocation and sentenced by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange on June 7, 2021.
According to court documents, the assault occurred on June 10, 2020, near Lantry, South Dakota, where Stadel grabbed his intimate partner by the throat, causing her to lose consciousness. When she tried to escape, Stadel tackled her, breaking her arm.
Stadel was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 11, 2020, and later pleaded guilty to the charges on March 22, 2021.
The case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller prosecuting the case.
As part of his sentence, Stadel was ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
Stadel was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service immediately following his sentencing.
