Gun Dealing Scandal Rocks Indiana Community

A federal indictment has been returned against Shamekka Thomas, a 25-year-old Gary, Indiana resident, for allegedly making false statements to a licensed firearms dealer. The indictment, returned on June 21, 2013, charges Thomas with making a false material statement to a licensed firearms dealer with the intent of deceiving as to legality of purchase, knowingly making a false statement to a licensed firearms dealer with respect to information required to be kept on record and aiding and abetting.

According to the indictment, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigated the case, which has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tom McGrath.

The indictment alleges that Thomas made false statements in order to obtain firearms illegally. The charges carry significant penalties, including fines and imprisonment.
