South Bend Man Sentenced to 100 Months in Prison for Bank Robbery

A South Bend man has been sentenced to 100 months in prison for his role in a brazen bank robbery that left employees shaken.

Shamond Jenkins, 20, was found guilty by a jury in December 2021 of bank robbery. He was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge Jon E. DeGuilio to 100 months in prison, 2 years of supervised release and ordered to pay $1,965 in restitution.

According to documents in the case, Jenkins walked into a bank in December 2020 and handed over a note threatening to kill an employee if they didn't hand over cash. The employees, gathering the cash from the teller drawers, were repeatedly told by Jenkins that he was prepared to kill them.

Jenkins then fled the scene with the cash and was arrested in January 2021. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the South Bend Police Department and the Mishawaka Police Department.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in local communities. The program focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting strategic enforcement priorities.

Shamond Jenkins is now behind bars, serving a 100-month sentence for his role in the bank robbery. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community safety and the need for continued efforts to reduce violent crime.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joel R. Gabrielse, who worked tirelessly to bring Jenkins to justice. The community can rest assured that those who commit violent crimes will be held accountable for their actions.
