Shaquan M. Shingledecker, Heroin Possession, New York 2017
A deadly high-speed chase through Niagara Falls, New York, ended in a crash, leaving one man facing serious charges. Shaquan M. Shingledecker, 25, of Niagara Falls, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
According to authorities, New York State Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of Shingledecker on February 2, 2017 for a missing front license plate. Shingledecker, however, did not pull over and led police on a high-speed chase, reaching speeds of over 95 miles per hour through commercial and residential sections of Niagara Falls.
The defendant lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the side of a house located at the intersection of Girard Avenue and 75th Street in Niagara Falls. At the accident scene, police found 95 glassine envelopes containing heroin, a loaded Ruger handgun with 10 rounds of ammunition, and $1,439.08 in United States currency in Shingledecker's vehicle.
The charges against Shingledecker carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for February 15, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Wolford.
The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Edward Kennedy; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Ashan Benedict; the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division; and the Niagara Falls Police Department, under the direction of Superintendent Bryan DalPorto.
Shingledecker's guilty plea marks a significant development in the ongoing battle against heroin trafficking in Niagara Falls. The community remains vigilant in the face of this deadly threat, and authorities continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.
