Shaun Jamar Harris, Bank Robbery, Alabama 2020

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A Florida man was sentenced today for a brazen bank robbery in Anniston, a crime that left bank employees and customers shaken.

On January 10, 2020, Shaun Jamar Harris, 32, of Miami, Florida, and his accomplice, Christopher Jermain Spann, robbed the Regions Bank branch located on Greenbrier Dear Road in Anniston. Spann went into the bank while Harris waited in the car, a white 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, outside.

Harris handed a bank teller a note that read, “ALL BIG BILL N THE BAG. NO DIE PICK OR TRACK I HAVE A GUN WILL KILL YOU.” The teller, fearing for their safety, placed $1720.10 in a plastic bag provided by Spann, who then fled the bank and ran back to the waiting car. Harris drove recklessly out of the bank parking lot, eventually leading to his arrest in Cleburne County.

According to authorities, Harris and Spann were arrested and taken into custody by the Anniston Police Department. Harris was charged with bank robbery, a serious federal offense that carries significant prison time. On Thursday, United States District Judge R. David Proctor sentenced Harris to 70 months in prison for his role in the crime.

“As today's sentence makes plain, bank robbery is a serious federal offense that carries serious prison time,” said U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona. “I want to thank the FBI and the Anniston Police Department for their work investigating this case.”

Christopher Jermain Spann is scheduled to be sentenced on June 30.

The FBI investigated the case, along with the Anniston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy Peoples prosecuted the case.
