Shilo Aaron Oldrock, Second Degree Murder, New Mexico 2021

In a gruesome double murder case, Shilo Aaron Oldrock, a 30-year-old enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe, has pleaded guilty to second degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in federal court in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

According to court documents, on January 29, 2021, Oldrock and another individual attacked and killed a third person. Later, on October 10, 2021, Oldrock attacked and killed the second victim before decapitating his head with an axe and throwing it in a woodstove inside the victim's residence.

The motive behind the murders was Oldrock's belief that the victims would harm him in order to cover up the first murder. Oldrock also believed that one of the victims had killed his grandmother.

Oldrock will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled. At sentencing, he faces up to 35 years in prison.
