Skyler Wyatt, Child Exploitation, Iowa 2017
A Clarion man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting a child.
Skyler Wyatt, age 26, of Clarion, Iowa, received the sentence after a January 25, 2017 guilty plea to one count of sexual exploitation of a child. At the plea hearing, Wyatt admitted that, in 2016, he knowingly used a child to produce child pornography.
Cedar Rapids Chief United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the sentence to Wyatt, who must serve 240 months imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and Wyatt must also serve a seven-year term of supervised release. He must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Wyatt’s sentence is a result of his admission of using a child to produce child pornography in 2016.
