A chilling message scrawled on a car window in Apex, NC, sparked a Secret Service investigation and led to the arrest of 41-year-old Daniel R. Swain of South Carolina. The ominous warning, ‘HEADED TO WSH TO KILL THE PRES,’ was written in white marker on the driver’s side window of Swain’s car, prompting concerned citizens to contact the Apex Police Department.
The Secret Service obtained a federal warrant and arrested Swain, charging him with making threats against the President in violation of Title 18, United States Code Section 871(a). If convicted, Swain faces up to 5 years in prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Logan Liles is prosecuting the case, which is being investigated by the USSS and Apex Police Department.
