Stamford Pharmacy to Pay $45,000 for Controlled Substances Act Violations
Stamford, CT – In a shocking turn of events, a local pharmacy has been forced to cough up $45,000 in fines for violating the Controlled Substances Act.
According to sources, Stamford Pharmacy, located at 1055 High Ridge Road in Stamford, failed to promptly file theft and loss reports of controlled substances with the DEA in at least 17 separate instances as required by law.
The pharmacy was also accused of failing to keep current, complete, and accurate controlled substance records of each controlled substance purchased and dispensed.
“This mission was taken against the backdrop of trying to prevent the diversion and abuse of legitimate controlled substances while at the same time ensuring an adequate supply of those substances needed to meet the medical and scientific needs of the United States,” said Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
The allegations against Stamford Pharmacy were uncovered by investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Office of Diversion Control in Rocky Hill, and the State of Connecticut, Department of Consumer Protection, Drug Control Division.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan M. Soloway led the prosecution, working tirelessly to bring the pharmacy to justice.
The fine, which totals $45,000, is a stark reminder of the consequences of violating the Controlled Substances Act.
As one source noted, “This is a wake-up call for pharmacies across the country. If you’re not following the rules, you’ll be held accountable.”
