Valdosta Dentist Pleads Guilty to Medicaid Fraud

A former Valdosta dentist has been charged with health care fraud after a federal investigation found that he submitted fake claims to Medicaid for unnecessary tooth extractions.

Dr. Stanley B. Marable, 55, a general practice dentist in Valdosta, Georgia, pleaded guilty in United States District Court in Valdosta, Georgia to one count of Health Care Fraud.

According to the plea agreement, Dr. Marable was paid over $789,000 by Medicaid for 3,145 claims for tooth extractions between January 2011 and September 30, 2013. However, an investigation revealed that many of the patients had not actually undergone the procedure.

The investigation, led by the Georgia Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Georgia Department of Community Health – Office of Inspector General, found that Dr. Marable had submitted claims for patients who had never even visited his office.

Dr. Marable faces a maximum sentence of up to ten years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.

As part of his plea agreement, Dr. Marable has agreed to pay a total of $789,841.00 in restitution to the Georgia Medicaid Program.

Sentencing for Dr. Marable has been scheduled for February 8, 2017.
