Local Man Charged with Distributing Child Pornography

A disturbing case has surfaced in the community, with a Georgia resident facing serious allegations of distributing child pornography. Stanley Joseph Weaver, 60, formerly of McDonough (Henry County), Georgia, and currently of Jackson (Butts County), Georgia, has been taken into custody and charged with two counts of distribution of child pornography.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary, the charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, no less than five years to life of supervised release, and registration as a sex offender upon release from prison. The indictment is only an allegation of criminal conduct, and Weaver is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

Weaver was taken into custody on Saturday, January 23, after a federal grand jury indicted him on January 13. He appeared in court today for an arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles H. Weigle, where the Government moved for pretrial detention. His detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday, January 28.
