Woman Sentenced for Embezzling Over $350,000 from Dells Fire & EMS Commissions

MADISON, WIS. – Stephanie Czuprynko, 54, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for embezzling over $350,000 from the Delton Fire Department Commission and Dells-Delton Emergency Services Commission in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

Czuprynko, who worked as the secretary/bookkeeper for the two commissions, pleaded guilty to embezzling public monies that involved at least $10,000 in federal funds on May 21, 2019. The total loss amounted to $358,233.42, spanning from February 1, 2016 to November 16, 2018.

At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge William B. Conley noted that Czuprynko's embezzlement violated the trust of her employer and the public, placing the community at risk due to a lack of funds to provide Fire and EMS services.

Czuprynko paid the entire restitution amount of $358,233.42 prior to the sentencing hearing, as ordered by Judge Conley.

According to the investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lake Delton Police Department, Czuprynko provided spreadsheets detailing her thefts to the police after being confronted with the missing money in the checking accounts on November 20, 2018.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Graber handled the prosecution of this case.

“My office is committed to holding accountable those who abuse the public trust for their own personal gain,” said U.S. Attorney Scott Blader after the sentencing.
