Muskogee Man Sentenced for Illegally Possessing Ammunition

A 32-year-old Okmulgee man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for illegally possessing ammunition.

Sterling Ross, IV, was sentenced on March 12, 2025, for one count of Felon in Possession of Ammunition.

The charge arose from an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Okmulgee Police Department.

According to investigators, on April 29, 2024, Ross ran a stop sign, then attempted to evade police. He led police on a high-speed chase through Okmulgee before fleeing the vehicle, leaving with the engine running and the doors open.

While securing the vehicle, police discovered a Glock magazine with 12 rounds of ammunition. Ross had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year imprisonment at the time he possessed the ammunition.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing.

Ross will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
