NORFOLK, Va. – A Georgia man has been sentenced to 420 months in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking operation that transported cocaine and heroin to the Norfolk area.
Steve Jacob Joseph, 35, of Alpharetta, Georgia, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and one kilogram or more of heroin. He was sentenced by United States District Judge Mark S. Davis.
According to court records and evidence presented at trial, Joseph and his co-conspirator, Nicole Felicia Clark, were members of a large-scale drug trafficking organization that transported cocaine and heroin from New York City and Atlanta, Georgia to Norfolk, Virginia.
Clark, 36, of Ellenwood, Georgia, was found guilty of three counts of possession of heroin with intent to distribute and was sentenced to 240 months in prison. She was also involved in transporting kilograms of cocaine and heroin from Georgia to Norfolk in a secret compartment in a 2007 GMC Yukon SUV.
The investigation led to the arrest of Joseph and Clark following a traffic stop in suburban Atlanta on November 4, 2013. Police seized approximately $10,000 in cash from Joseph and found videos depicting him and Clark placing items in the secret compartment in the GMC Yukon.
Joseph was arrested later that evening in a car stereo installation shop named JMW Customs Auto in Rex, Georgia. The police also seized a DVR security camera system from the shop that contained videos of Joseph and Clark placing items in the secret compartment.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Darryl J. Mitchell prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
