Steven E. Siff, Tax Evasion, Florida 2023
A Miami attorney has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for failing to file income tax returns, resulting in a significant burden on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Steven E. Siff, 56, of Davie, was sentenced on no specific date given by U.S. District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas in the Southern District of Florida.
Siff, who worked as an attorney in the Miami office of an international law firm, pled guilty to three counts of failing to file an income tax return, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7203.
According to court documents, since at least 1982, Siff earned approximately $8,248,401 in partnership profits between 2001 and 2011. However, he failed to make an income tax return reporting gross partnership income of $716,464, $705,967, and $694,449, respectively, for tax years 2009 through 2011.
As part of his plea agreement, Siff agreed to pay restitution to the IRS of $924,684.
Mr. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of IRS-CI. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bertha R. Mitrani.
