Published April 24, 2023

Baltimore, Maryland - In a crackdown on gun violence, a Baltimore felon has been sentenced to 58 months in federal prison for being in possession of a firearm and ammunition. 36-year-old Steven McCullough was arrested after a video posted on social media showed him holding a handgun, leading police to his location.

According to court documents, on December 3, 2020, McCullough posted a video on social media showing him holding a black handgun. Baltimore Police officers saw the video and responded to the location where McCullough was found. When officers attempted to arrest him, McCullough ran and pulled out a 10mm pistol from his sweatshirt pocket.

A short distance later, McCullough tripped and tossed the gun out of his reach. The police recovered the handgun, a 10mm pistol, which was loaded with one round of 10mm jacketed hollow point ammunition in the chamber but was missing a magazine. A search of the area also revealed a magazine loaded with nine rounds of 10mm ammunition identical to the round found in the gun.

McCullough was searched and officers found approximately 36 vials containing a total of approximately 40 grams of cocaine for distribution. He admitted to knowing he had a previous felony conviction and was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, which brings together law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The program has led to a significant decrease in homicides and non-fatal shootings in Baltimore, with a 17% drop in homicides and a 20% drop in non-fatal shootings compared to last year.
