Susan Heins, Fentanyl and Heroin Distribution, Iowa 2023
A notorious figure in the Cedar Rapids underworld has been brought to justice after distributing fentanyl and heroin to unsuspecting victims.
Susan Heins, a 47-year-old resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for her role in the distribution of controlled substances. The sentence was handed down on April 6, 2023, by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams.
According to evidence presented at the plea and sentencing hearings, Heins was involved in a controlled buy of purported heroin on October 21, 2020. Law enforcement conducted the buy, and Heins met with the confidential source, distributing fentanyl and heroin at the meeting location.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep and investigated by the DEA Task Force, consisting of the DEA, Linn County Sheriff's Office, Cedar Rapids Police Department, Marion Police Department, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
Heins is scheduled to serve a three-year term of supervised release after completing her prison term. There is no parole in the federal system, and she is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.
