Muscatine Woman Sentenced to 96 Months in Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking

A woman from Muscatine, Iowa, has been sentenced to federal prison for her involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking operation. Susan Jean Stroughmatt, age 33, was sentenced on December 5, 2022, to 96 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, law enforcement investigated Stroughmatt in 2021 for her role in trafficking methamphetamine. Between November 2020 and January 2021, Stroughmatt received and trafficked at least six pounds of methamphetamine from a co-defendant, Thomas Iverson, age 52, of Minnesota.

In April 2021, Stroughmatt trafficked nearly three pounds of methamphetamine from a source in Cedar Rapids. Law enforcement conducted two controlled buys of methamphetamine from Stroughmatt at her residence in Muscatine in September and December 2021. Following the second controlled buy, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Stroughmatt’s residence, locating evidence of drug trafficking.

Stroughmatt is expected to serve five years of supervised release following her imprisonment. Her co-defendant, Thomas Iverson, is scheduled to be sentenced on January 4, 2023.

The investigation into Stroughmatt’s activities was conducted by the Muscatine County Drug Task Force. U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement.
