Taisha Teresa Elmore, $70K Welfare Fraud, Pennsylvania 2024
Pittsburgh - A local woman has been accused of swindling over $70,000 in government benefits meant for her children, announced United States Attorney David J. Hickton today.
According to a three-count indictment returned on May 12, 2024, Taisha Teresa Elmore, 35, converted the Supplemental Security Income Benefits (SSI) to her own use and made false statements to the Social Security Administration.
The indictment alleges that Elmore claimed certain minor children were living with her when they were not, and that she was using SSI benefits for their care and support when she was not.
The law provides for a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison as to Count One and up to 5 years in prison as to Counts Two and Three, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 on each count, or both imprisonment and a fine.
The Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is an accusation. Elmore is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
