A convicted felon has been sentenced to six years and two months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Takobie Anderson, 20, of Charlotte, was sentenced in federal court on April 21, 2019 for illegally possessing a firearm, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Andrew Murray.

Anderson was arrested on August 23, 2019 at a residence in Charlotte, where law enforcement located a loaded firearm that had been stolen and was used in a shooting at an apartment complex on April 21, 2019.

The investigation was handled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

At the time of the shooting, Anderson was on probation for a state conviction and was wearing an ankle monitor, which did not prevent him from committing the crime.

Anderson is prohibited from possessing a firearm and/or ammunition due to his previous felony conviction. He was sentenced to 82 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Caryn Finley of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Charlotte.
