Tarrence Dramon Tolbert, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Alabama 2021

A corrections officer trainee from Brewton, Alabama, has been sentenced to 135 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Tarrence Dramon Tolbert, 40, was a trainee at the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama, when he was caught attempting to smuggle the illicit substance into the prison.

According to court documents, Tolbert was stopped by a supervisor on February 24, 2020, who grew suspicious of his behavior and later conducted a search of his belongings.

The search revealed methamphetamine ice, marijuana, earbuds, a SIM card, cigars, two bottles of liquor, and two knives, which Tolbert intended to deliver to certain inmates.

Tolbert pled guilty to the charge in January 2021 and was subsequently sentenced on June 29, 2021, by United States District Court Judge William H. Steele.

The sentence included a mandatory special assessment of $100.

The case was investigated by the Alabama Department of Corrections, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.

Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell prosecuted the case, which highlights the ongoing threat of drug trafficking within the nation's correctional facilities.

Tolbert's sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those who engage in such illicit activities.
