Tavorris Wilkins, Assaulting and Threatening US Attorney, Florida 2019

A South Florida man has been charged with a federal crime after he allegedly threw a chair at an Assistant United States Attorney and threatened to kill him. Tavorris Wilkins, 33, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for assaulting an Assistant United States Attorney and threatening to assault and kill him.

The incident occurred on November 7, 2019, after a jury returned a guilty verdict in a separate case. As the jurors were exiting the courtroom, Wilkins picked up a chair and threw it at the Assistant United States Attorney who had prosecuted his case. The Assistant U.S. Attorney barely escaped being hit by the chair, according to the indictment.

Deputy United States Marshals tackled Wilkins and attempted to restrain him. During the altercation, Wilkins allegedly threatened to kill and assault the Assistant United States Attorney. Wilkins was subsequently restrained and taken into custody.
