Published January 26, 2015

A 31-year-old Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 5 years probation for his involvement in a mail fraud scheme related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Teborius Gaines, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, pled guilty on May 16, 2014 to participation in a mail fraud scheme.

As part of his sentence, Gaines was ordered to serve the first 6 months on home confinement, maintain employment, and pay restitution in the amount of $13,400.00.

The United States Attorney, Kenyen R. Brown, announced the sentencing in a press release.

Special Agents of the United States Secret Service investigated the case and presented it to the U.S. Attorney's Office for prosecution.

Assistant United States Attorney, Gina S. Vann, was assigned to the case.

Gaines' sentence may seem lenient, but it's clear that the court is taking the crime seriously.
