Purvis Man Pleads Guilty to Aiding in False Tax Return

A Purvis man has pleaded guilty to aiding and assisting in the preparation of a materially false tax return, announced U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca and Special Agent in Charge James E. Dorsey of the Internal Revenue Service- Criminal Investigation, Atlanta Field Office.

Terance Dewune Price, 41, was identified in an investigation by the IRS as a tax preparer who, on or about February 5, 2018, in Hattiesburg, aided and assisted in, procuring, counseling, and advising in the preparation and presentation to the IRS, of a false U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, Form 1040.

According to court documents, Price's actions were a clear violation of tax laws and a breach of trust by a tax preparer.

Price is scheduled to be sentenced on August 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., in Hattiesburg, and faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $100,000 fine. A federal district judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations is investigating this case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Jones is prosecuting the case.

As a tax preparer, Price had a responsibility to ensure that the tax returns he prepared were accurate and truthful. Instead, he chose to aid and assist in the preparation of a false tax return, which can have serious consequences for the individual and the community.
