Manhunt Ends in 11-Year Prison Sentence for Washington DC Slaying
A Washington DC man will spend 11 years behind bars for his role in a 2009 slaying in Northeast Washington.
Terrell Patton, 21 at the time of the crime, was sentenced to 11 years of incarceration on a charge of voluntary manslaughter while armed, stemming from the October 2009 slaying of Deuante Ray. Patton will also serve five years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term.
According to investigators, Patton and the victim were observed together in the 1200 block of 49th Place NE on October 29, 2009. A witness reported that Patton was seen with a nine-millimeter handgun and was angry with the victim over a pack of Ecstasy pills valued at approximately $80.
A ShotSpotter recording captured gunfire at 12:35:15 a.m. in a rear alley, where the victim’s body was later found. Witnesses reported hearing shots and observing a thin person and a heavier individual in the alley, who was later identified as Patton. The victim’s bike was also missing, and a witness reported seeing Patton take the bike.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) arrived at the scene at approximately 12:40 a.m. and found the victim’s body, which had been shot at close range in the head and chest with a nine-millimeter weapon.
Patton was arrested on July 2, 2011, and has been incarcerated since. U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. praised the work of the MPD detectives and officers who investigated the case, as well as those who worked on the case from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Credit for the successful prosecution of the case goes to Assistant U.S. Attorney David B. Goodhand of the Appellate Section and Cynthia G. Wright, of the Homicide Section.
