Terronce Morris, Mail and Wire Fraud, Florida 2023
MIAMI - In a shocking case of deception, Terronce Morris, a 42-year-old resident of Missouri City, Tex., has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for his role in a nearly $3 million fraud scheme involving identity theft and bogus music concerts in Florida, according to court documents.
Morris, along with his accomplice Blake Kelly, 37, of Los Angeles, Calif., conspired to commit mail and wire fraud, as well as aggravated identity theft, by forging the signature and using the identity of music artist J.B. on false and fraudulent concert contracts.
Between December 2019 and March 2020, Morris and Kelly fraudulently obtained approximately $1,350,000 from victim J.R. by persuading him to give them the money for the purported production of a music festival featuring J.B., P.M., B.E., and other music recording artists.
Morris created several false and fraudulent concert performance contracts, forging the signatures of the music recording artists, including J.B. He also created false and fraudulent email accounts to pose as if the music recording artists themselves had sent the signed contracts to Kelly and himself.
During a video call with the victim, Morris had an accomplice pose as J.B. to trick the victim into believing that J.B. had agreed to perform at the concert series. Despite receiving several cease and desist letters from the recording artists' attorneys, Morris continued his fraud scheme, using the stolen money to finance a lavish lifestyle for himself and his accomplices.
The total fraud loss from Morris' musical artist fraud scheme is close to $3,000,000. Morris and Kelly used the fraudulently obtained money to enrich themselves and finance a lavish lifestyle for themselves and their accomplices, which included traveling, purchasing luxury goods, and paying for luxurious services.
Morris' sentencing comes after a long and complex investigation by law enforcement agencies. He will serve his 57-month prison sentence for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, as well as aggravated identity theft charges.
A total of $3,000,000 was stolen from victims, including J.R., A.M., W.P., S.H., M.P., N.V., and J.F. Morris used the stolen funds to enrich himself and finance a lavish lifestyle.
