Riverside Man Charged with Threatening to Kill President Trump
Thomas Eugene Streavel, 73, of Yucca Valley, California, was arraigned today on a three-count federal grand jury indictment charging him with threatening to assassinate then-President-elect Donald Trump after last year's election.
Streavel was arrested on Monday and was arraigned today in United States District Court in Riverside. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and a July 28 trial date was scheduled. A federal magistrate judge ordered him released on $10,000 bond.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated, 'This defendant is charged with threatening the life of our President – a man who has already survived two deranged attempts on his life.'
United States Attorney Bill Essayli added, 'The type of rhetoric and threats made by this defendant are similar to those that led to an attempt on the President's life last year.'
According to the indictment, Streavel used his Facebook account to post multiple messages expressing his desire to harm or have others harm President Trump.
The indictment alleges Streavel knowingly and willfully threatened to kill and inflict bodily harm on Donald Trump, who then was the President-elect of the United States.
Streavel is charged with three counts of making threats against the President-elect. If convicted, he would face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for each count.
The United States Secret Service is investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Matt Coe-Odess of the Domestic Security and Immigration Crimes Section is prosecuting this case.
Streavel's indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
