Thomas George, Armed Robbery, Pennsylvania 2019

A Brackenridge man has been charged with the armed robbery of the Allegheny-Ludlum Brackenridge Federal Credit Union. Thomas George, a resident of Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, entered the credit union on July 10, 2019 around 2 p.m., armed with a handgun, and took approximately $101,000 in $5 and $10 denominations from the vault located in the teller area.

A criminal complaint has been filed in federal court charging George with the crime. The complaint alleges that an eyewitness tip regarding a potential getaway vehicle led to the identification of George as the person responsible for the armed robbery.

According to the Affidavit in Support of the Criminal Complaint, George entered the credit union and demanded that the employees open the vault. He then took the cash from the vault and fled the scene. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

George made his initial appearance in federal court today before Chief Magistrate Judge Cynthia Reed Eddy. He has been detained without bail pending a preliminary hearing.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 25 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
