Thomasine Noela Charging Bear, Assault by Striking, Beating, or Wounding, South Dakota 2021

A Mission woman has been sentenced to 12 months in custody for her role in a violent assault.

Thomasine Noela Charging Bear, 35, was convicted of Assault by Striking, Beating, or Wounding, a federal crime.

The crime occurred on June 19, 2020, in Mission, South Dakota, when Charging Bear stabbed her domestic partner in the neck with a razor blade.

Charging Bear was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 11, 2020, and pled guilty on October 15, 2020.

On January 4, 2021, U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno sentenced Charging Bear to time served through July 21, 2021, which equates to approximately 12 months in custody.

In addition to her prison time, Charging Bear was also sentenced to one year of supervised release and ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The investigation into the crime was led by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Elmore prosecuting the case.

Charging Bear was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following her sentencing.

Charging Bear's crimes were a serious breach of trust and a violation of the law.
