Machiasport Man Sentenced to Prison for Possessing Firearm as a Felon

In a federal court case, a 64-year-old man from Machiasport, Maine, was sentenced to prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker handed down the sentence of 37 months in prison to Timothy D. Davis in federal court in Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday. This sentence will run consecutively to a 2-year sentence for violating the terms of his federal probation in another case.

The court also ordered Davis to serve three years of supervised release. Davis pleaded guilty to the charge in October 2019. According to court documents, Davis possessed a shotgun on July 9, 2019.

A 2010 conviction for armed assault with intent to murder and a conviction for possession of a firearm by a felon in 2019 made Davis ineligible to possess a firearm under federal law.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime by bringing together law enforcement and local communities.

Davis was previously convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon in 2019 and armed assault with intent to murder in 2010. He had been prohibited from possessing a firearm due to these previous convictions.

As part of the PSN program, law enforcement agencies and local communities work together to develop effective strategies for reducing violent crime.
