Published March 18, 2020

Methamphetamine Trafficking Rocks Mississippi Community

A shocking display of lawlessness has struck the state of Mississippi, as Timothy Griffin, a 44-year-old man from Byram, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine. The guilty plea was made yesterday before Chief U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan III.

According to the evidence presented, DEA agents learned that a drug transaction was going to occur on Raymond Road in Jackson in June 2018. Agents observed a pickup truck pull into the Raymond Road location, with Timothy Griffin identified as the driver. Following a search of the pickup truck, agents found approximately 425 grams of actual methamphetamine.

As a result of the extensive investigation targeting illegal methamphetamine distribution in Central Mississippi, Griffin will be sentenced on July 10, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. The maximum penalty he faces includes life in prison and a $10,000,000 fine.

The case has drawn attention from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Marshals Service, Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson Police Department, Richland Police Department, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and the Internal Revenue Service. The investigation was a collaborative effort to tackle the growing issue of methamphetamine distribution in the region.

Assistant United States Attorneys Chris Wansley and Keesha Middleton are leading the prosecution of this case, which serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine trafficking and the importance of continued law enforcement efforts to combat this threat.

As the sentencing date approaches, the community is left to wonder what motivated Timothy Griffin to engage in such a serious crime. Whatever the reason, one thing is clear: the consequences will be severe, and the impact will be felt for years to come.
