DAYTON, OH – Timothy Jefferson, 46, of Butler Township, is staring down a potential life sentence after admitting to running a significant drug operation and illegally possessing firearms. Jefferson pleaded guilty yesterday, March 28, in U.S. District Court to charges that carry a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison.
The feds say Jefferson conspired to distribute massive quantities of narcotics – five kilograms or more of cocaine, 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, and over 40 grams of fentanyl – throughout the Dayton area. The operation, which ran from at least May 2021 through December 2021, involved out-of-state trips to secure bulk shipments, with Jefferson and his crew using hotels as temporary stash houses while transporting the drugs back to Southern Ohio. This wasn’t small-time dealing; we’re talking about a serious pipeline.
According to court documents, Jefferson wasn’t just moving product, he was armed. He possessed firearms specifically “in furtherance of drug trafficking,” a charge that adds an additional mandatory five-year sentence on top of whatever he gets for the drug conspiracy. The ATF clearly believes Jefferson was prepared to protect his operation with force.
The bust wasn’t just about Jefferson himself. The investigation, a joint effort between the ATF, the Tactical Crime Suppression Unit, Kettering Police, and the DEA, clearly hit Jefferson hard. As part of the plea agreement, Jefferson will forfeit three firearms, a hefty amount of ammunition, his Chevy El Camino, and a staggering $55,000 in cash. That’s a lot of ill-gotten gains going back to the government.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker for the Southern District of Ohio, along with ATF Special Agent in Charge Daryl S. McCormick, and DEA Special Agent in Charge Orville O. Greene, announced the guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Michael J. Newman. Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy M. Smith is prosecuting the case. The actual sentencing will be determined at a later hearing, taking into account federal sentencing guidelines and other factors.
While the legal process isn’t complete, Jefferson’s guilty plea is a major win for federal law enforcement. It sends a clear message: moving this amount of poison and packing heat while doing it will land you in prison for a very long time. The streets of Dayton are a little safer tonight thanks to this bust.
