Tom Tso, Abusive Sexual Contact, New Mexico 2023

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Tom Tso, an 85-year-old man from Tse Bonito, New Mexico, has pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact with a minor. According to federal authorities, Tso committed the crime between August 4, 1998, and October 11, 2000.

The victim, Jane Doe, was under the age of 18 at the time of the abuse. Tso admitted to intentionally touching Doe's genitalia, groin, and inner thigh with the intent to gratify his sexual desires.

Tso, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, has remained on conditions of release pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

A federal grand jury issued a superseding indictment against Tso on May 9, 2023. Under the plea agreement, Tso faces up to three years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.

The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI's Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Alexander F. Flores is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Tom Tso's sentencing has not been scheduled. He faces up to three years in prison and five years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI's Albuquerque Field Office and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alexander F. Flores.
