In a disturbing case of child exploitation, a Gary man has been sentenced to 108 months in prison for distributing child pornography.

Tommy Watkins, 32 years old, pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge Jon E. DeGuilio. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's GRIT unit, with the assistance of the Porter County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Philip C. Benson prosecuted the case.

Watkins was sentenced to 108 months in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release. This harsh sentence serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit children through the distribution of child pornography.
