Shiprock Man Pleads Guilty to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury

ALBUQUERQUE — In a disturbing incident of violence, Tony Tsosie, a 57-year-old man from Shiprock, New Mexico, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in the parking lot of a local business.

According to court documents, on August 31, 2025, Tsosie stabbed Jane Doe in the face and thigh with a sharp object in the parking lot of Bashas’ Diné Market in Shiprock, New Mexico.

The victim suffered serious bodily injury as a result of the assault. Tsosie was later detained by the Navajo Police Department.

During the investigation, Tsosie denied involvement and provided a false identity, claiming not to be carrying a knife. However, a witness described him stabbing the victim multiple times after a verbal altercation.

Tsosie pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.

The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico is prosecuting the case.

Tsosie faces a stipulated sentence of 24 months imprisonment at sentencing.
