A Burlington, Vermont man has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to court records, Travis Collins, 43, of St. Albans City, Vermont, was arrested in downtown Burlington on January 9, 2024, on outstanding State of Vermont warrants. At the time of his arrest, Collins was found to be wearing a backpack that contained a loaded pistol with an obliterated serial number. The pistol was later determined to have been stolen.
Collins was sentenced by Judge William K. Sessions III to a term of imprisonment of 12 months and one day, to be followed by three years of supervised release. His sentence began on August 4, 2025, the date it was imposed, and did not count the time he spent in pretrial custody.
Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher commended the investigatory efforts of the United States Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Collins was represented by the Office of the Federal Public Defender. Assistant United States Attorney Nicole Cate prosecuted the case. The prosecutor commended the work of the investigative agencies involved in the case.
