USPS Employee Charged with Theft of Government Property

A former United States Postal Service (USPS) employee, Travis L. Wilkerson, has been charged with theft of government property, false statements, and fraud, among other charges, announced Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez, United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico.

According to the indictment, Wilkerson, a City Carrier, was charged with two counts of false statements to the Department of Labor (DOL), Office of Workers Compensation Program (DOL OWCP), two counts of false statements and fraud to obtain federal employees' compensation, and one count of theft of government property.

The investigation conducted by the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG) revealed that while receiving OWCP benefits, Wilkerson has been actively engaged in Wilkerson-Farms, a business that he owns, which is dedicated to the sales and distribution of coffee, fruits, and vegetables to the United States.

The amount of compensation benefits that Wilkerson received illegally is approximately $30,685.00, according to the investigation.

Wilkerson is facing up to 10 years in prison for the theft of government property charges.
