Travis Longfox, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, South Dakota 2021
A Whitewood man has been sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.
Travis Longfox, age 29, was sentenced on July 26, 2021 by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken.
Longfox, a previously convicted felon, was found in possession of a Kel-Tec .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol after coming into contact with law enforcement in Rapid City on July 2019.
The conviction stems from Longfox being a prohibited person from possessing firearms.
As part of his sentence, Longfox was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and will serve 3 years of supervised release after his prison term.
Longfox was immediately remanded to the custody of the US Marshals Service.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.
