Local Man Sentenced to Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking
Council Bluffs, IA - A Pottawattamie County man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Travis Wright Scott, 31, was sentenced to a total of 160 months in prison by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey on September 19, 2019.
Scott was sentenced to 100 months of imprisonment on the charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and 60 months of imprisonment for carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. The sentences will run consecutively.
Following Scott's prison term, he will serve five years of supervised release.
The case against Scott began in 2018, when detectives with the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force conducted controlled buys of narcotics with him. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Scott was located and found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, a digital scale, serialized money from the controlled buys, and a loaded Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm handgun that was reported stolen.
Scott pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2019. This case was investigated by the Council Bluffs Police Department and the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Travis Wright Scott is currently serving his prison sentence and will be released after serving five years of supervised release. The community is safer thanks to the efforts of law enforcement in bringing this individual to justice.
