Cedar Rapids man sentenced to 2 years in prison for child pornography possession, ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution.
Troy French, age 29, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography, a crime that involves the depiction of prepubescent children, according to court documents.
French pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography on July 8, 2019, and admitted to knowingly possessing the illicit material between 2012 and 2017.
U.S. District Court Judge C.J. Williams sentenced French to 24 months in prison, a special assessment of $100, and ordered him to make $3,000 in restitution to the victims depicted in the images he possessed.
French was also ordered to serve a 10-year term of supervised release and comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Tremmel and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
