Troy Kelly, Threatening President Biden, New York 2024

Troy Kelly, a 19-year-old Crown Point resident, has been charged with making threats against the President of the United States. The 19-year-old allegedly made the threat on social media platform 'X' on May 17, 2024.

According to the United States Attorney's office, on May 17, 2024, Kelly responded to a post by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. with a post that included the sentence: 'Gonna put a bullet in your head if I ever catch you.'

Kelly was arrested yesterday and charged via criminal complaint with making threats against the President of the United States. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel and was detained pending a full detention hearing scheduled for June 28, 2024.

The criminal complaint alleges that Kelly confirmed he posted the threat and told a Secret Service agent that he had done so because it was 'true.' When asked if he still wanted to kill President Biden, Kelly allegedly said 'If I could, I would.'

Kelly is facing one count of making threats against the President of the United States, which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release following any term of incarceration of up to three years.

The charges in the complaint are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The United States Secret Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and the New York State Police are investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph S. Hartunian is prosecuting the case.
