Troy Nix, Selling Firearm and Heroin, Florida 2022

Ocala, Florida, resident Troy Nix (29) has been formally charged with two federal crimes following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with other law enforcement agencies. According to court records, on June 3, 2022, Nix sold a 9mm firearm and heroin to an undercover ATF agent. When agents attempted to arrest him, he fled on foot and was apprehended several hours later.

Troy Nix, a convicted felon with at least eight prior state felony convictions, including battery on a person 65 years of age or older, sale of cocaine, and fleeing to elude police, is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. Nix faces up to 10 years in federal prison for the firearm offense and up to 20 years in federal prison for the drug offense if convicted.

It's essential to note that an indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty in a court of law.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tyrie K. Boyer. This case was investigated by the ATF, the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mount Dora Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the government's violent crime reduction efforts. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

In accordance with federal law, as a convicted felon with prior felony convictions, Troy Nix is not permitted to possess firearms or ammunition. By selling a firearm and heroin, Nix has committed a serious crime that warrants severe punishment.
