Assault on Navajo Nation Reservation
A shocking case of violence has emerged from the Navajo Nation reservation in New Mexico, where a 29-year-old man allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend and struck her with his vehicle. Tyrell Lee Johnson, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, faces federal charges in connection with the November 2, 2024, assault on Highway 64 in Beclabito.
According to court records, Johnson stabbed his ex-girlfriend with a knife and struck her with his vehicle, leaving her with multiple injuries, including a stab wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to Northern Navajo Medical Center for treatment.
Johnson was later apprehended by Navajo Police Department officers after a brief pursuit. A folding knife was reportedly recovered from his person.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.
The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI's Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Nation Department of Investigation and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Mark A. Probasco is prosecuting the case.
If convicted of the current charges, Johnson faces up to 10 years in prison.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
