A Pittsburgh resident has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to stealing a package from a neighbor's mailbox.
Tyrone Mobley, 58, of the East Hills neighborhood, was convicted of one count of mail theft in federal court on May 26, 2026, and sentenced to 27 months of incarceration. This was his third conviction for mail theft, and he was under federal supervision at the time of the theft.
The crime occurred in the Oakland/Shadyside area, where Mobley stole a package shipped through the United States Postal Service. According to the court, mail theft is a significant offense that erodes public trust in the postal system.
United States District Judge W. Scott Hardy emphasized the severity of the crime, stating that Mobley's sentencing should serve as a warning to others who consider stealing mail.
