On July 26, 2007, Tyrone Saunders, a 32-year-old resident of Baltimore, Maryland, was charged with multiple counts of violent crimes in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Saunders, a notorious figure in the city's underworld, was accused of being involved in a string of violent robberies and assaults that terrorized local residents and business owners.

The charges against Saunders included use of a firearm during a crime of violence, carrying a handgun without a license, and assault with intent to maim. Prosecutors alleged that Saunders had used a handgun to threaten and intimidate victims during the commission of the crimes.
